Looking back through my entries on bridesmaids or maid of honor speeches and best man speeches I noticed something. They are practically the same. They all follow the same basic structures.
1) Introduction
You need to tell everyone who your are because at least half the room may not know who you are and why you are getting up to talk.
2) Thank The Crowd
Thank the people for coming and also thank the people who made the wedding possible. It helps set a good tone and gets people to listen a little.
3) Talk about Your Friend
Usually at the point the Maid of Honor will talk about the Bride and the Best Man will Talk about the Groom. Either way they usually end up telling a funny story. The Best Man’s may be a tad bit more riske than the Maid of Honors but you still need to keep it relatively clean for the grandmothers in the audience.
4) Talk about Their New Partner
This when we swap to talk about their new husband or wife. Usually this is talking about how beautiful the wife is or a funny story about how you met them. Once again keep it clean and try to remember something that makes your friend look cute and endearing.
5) Talk about the Couple
Easy for both sides. Talk about hanging out with them together. How they are a great match and so on. Just don’t give yourself a toothache.
6) Advice
Here is where you give them advice. Either from a proverb, your own life experience or from what you learned from your parents. It is nice to help them along.
7) Toast
Now you give them best wishes in the years to come. Usually you can end with the toast because it makes it an easy transition to the next speaker.
See, those look almost identical. This is how almost any wedding speech can be preformed in top style.
